Curly Bamboo Plant Care
Despite its name, curly bamboo is not actually bamboo. The Dracaena genus is a genus of more than 100 species of plants in the asparagus family (Asparagaceae), says Encyclopedia Brittanica. According to pro powers, if your lucky bamboo was packaged when you purchased it, carefully remove the packaging and add rocks to the container to anchor the plant. Fill the container with enough ater to cover the roots.
Warning
Pro Flowers says that lucky bamboo is toxic to cats and dogs, so don't let them chew on it. It's not harmful to humans, however.
If any leaves become yellow, remove them. It's optional, but you can use a liquid houseplant fertilizer every three to four weeks. If your bamboo is happy, it may outgrow its container. Repot it if its roots outgrow the container. Spiral bamboo is a tropical plant, so avoid leaving it indoors if it's drafty or cold.
If your curly bamboo has an offshoot, you can cut it off to propagate a new plant. If the stalk has more than two segments, clip off the offshoot at the point where it's attached to the parent stalk and remove its bottom layer of leaves to create a new stalk. Place the new stalk in a small container of water and treat it as you did the parent plant.
